Happiness

I know, I know. How cliché to write a blog post about happiness but it’s been on my mind a lot recently. So, I’ll just start with a few questions. When was the last time you thought about what makes you happy before seeing this post? Do you actively pay attention to what makes you happy? Are you self-aware enough to note those moments or are you just going about your day to day?

Think about that for just a second.

Do you know why there are so many blog posts, books, songs, poems, movies and other forms of media about happiness? Because it’s important and worth talking about as often as possible.

It’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the trappings of our work day or our busy schedules. This kid has soccer practice, this one has band. I need to do laundry, grocery shop, etc. Our to-do lists can be absolutely infinite now that they’re digital. The calendar in your phone can scope out to 5 years in the future and you can start scheduling appointments for things.

Gross.

I’m not hating on to-do lists or keeping a calendar. I’m actually encouraging you to use them more. Utilizing them for goals and dreams. Not just keeping a list of things you “need to do.” Schedule time for gratitude journaling. Schedule a 10 minute break in your work day (your boss won’t notice) to ask yourself if you enjoy what you do. Make a list of things you like. If you’re not quite sure what you like, you’re probably aware of what you don’t like, so start that. Avoiding things you know full well you dislike can lead you to where you want to be.

Remember to schedule time for Happiness.
